Taking Diazepam Before Dental Appointment

Monologues: Margaretha Krook aka Dr.

The second chapter of the book Monologues is based on a scene Person, experimental film by Ingmar Bergman, 1966, and starring in the role of Dr. Margaretha Krook a Swedish psychiatric hospital.

Actress Elizabeth Volger, played by Liv Ullmann, was hysterical on stage during the performance of 'Elektra : You won by a sudden inexplicable silence that led her to abandon the work and give to relations with others. Hospitalized to ascertain his state of health, is completely healthy both physically and mentally. The doctor who understands the care of the voluntary nature of the conduct of Elizabeth, and turns to the woman in this way:

Did not think you understand? You chase a dream in despair, this is your punishment. You want to be, do not seem to be. Being in every moment conscious of you, and alert. At the same time you realize the abyss that separates what you are for others to what you are for yourself. Causes almost a sense of vertigo fear of being discovered, right? Of being laid bare, exposed, restored to its proper limits. As each word is a lie, any false gesture, every smile a grimace, which is the most difficult role? Suicide? But no, it would be undignified, better to take refuge in the stillness, in silence, you avoid having to lie. Or get away from life, so no need to act, show a fake face and gesturing desired. Do not you think? This is what we believe. But do not just hide, because you see life manifests itself in many different ways, and it is impossible not to react. Nobody cares whether your reactions are true or false, sincere or lying, the only problem is traced to the theater major, and perhaps not even there. I understand you Elisabeth, I understand your silence, that your immobility, and because you have raised to your way of life absurd apathy. I understand, and almost admire you. In my opinion you should continue to play your part to the end, until it loses all interest and leave the way you are used to doing, moving from one role to another.

Here, side by side, the monologue in the original language and dubbed in Italian.
